Content Questions

A. No I think the intent of the story is more complex. Angelou is showing that even if you may seriously dislike someone or a group of people you should still treat them with patience and respect.

E. She talks mainly about how filthy and poorly taken care of they are to show that they aren't the most respectable and well behaved children.

Sustained Writing
I can think of an instance where one of my close friends and I were around a bit of a socially backward kid. The socially backward kid was just hard to talk to and kind of got up in our faces a little bit and told us some strange stories. He was a little obnoxious. In the sense that he was loud and it was hard to be around this guy if you didn't have very much patience. My friend that I was with displayed his character by simply looking past the kid's awkward traits and enjoying the good traits about him. I noticed my friend would laugh along with the socially backward kid and have a really good time with him. Soon I noticed that I too was joining in on the laughing and having fun because I followed my friend's example of patience and kindness. His example of reaching out to this boy was really inspiring to me. All that kid wanted was to have a friend or two and my buddy I was with gave him that by not only reaching out to this boy but also by inviting me to come hang out with them. The example my friend showed has inspired me to reach out to others who are in need of a friend but being kind to them and also having patience with weird or awkward traits that people may have. I just hope that I can continue to be loving to those who need to be loved because everyone needs a friend and everyone deserves to be respected. Just like in the story even though Annie didn't really like the little girls and was offended by their behavior she still showed them respect and kindness in a way that I'm sure they'll never forget.
