No Name Woman

Content A- They are ashamed because she slept with another man for sure. The distinction is definitely important because being ashamed of someone for taking their own life and for commiting adultery are two entirely different things therefore they are viewed much differently.

Engaging the Text A- I chose the passage where it talks about how the villagers raided the home of the No Name Woman because I find it shocking that people could do such horrible things. I think they took the punishment of the No Name Woman way too far. She shouldn't have commited adultery but that doesn't give the villagers the right to come and destroy her home and steal her possessions.

Sustained writing B- The reaction of the people definitely shows that it was socially unacceptable to cheat on your spouse. Any one who did so was severly punished as we see in this story of the No Name Woman. I still find it appalling how the people thought it was their responsibility to punish this woman by destroying her home and making her feel ashamed and shunned. So ashamed that she ended up killing herself. In my opinion her blood is on the hands of the villagers because they persecuted her and oppressed her to the point where she no longer wanted to live. Did they not think that perhaps she was forced upon by another man and that is why she was pregnant? I know my family would react much differently to this situation. They would be disappointed for sure but they would not completely disown someone for committing adultery or any type of morale crime for that matter. It would of course take time for their dissappointment to completely go away but they would definitely give the person a second chance which is how I think society should be. I think they should allow all people second chances and give them the chance to redeem themselves of a crime.
